SINGERS TIP OF THE DAY: Why is yawning is good for you?

It’s a relationship mechanism that

  • Lifts the palette
  • Stretches your facial muscles
  • Drops your breath into the diaphragm

TRY THIS EXERCISE:

When yawning, bring your tongue forward behind your bottom teeth.  Vocalize while yawning using an AH sound. You will hear the voice resonate freely with no tension in the throat. Making singing effortless.

Singers Analogy of the Day

Think of your body as a wind instrument such as a flute or clarinet. We blow into the instrument to make sound and we press the buttons to make the pitch. For singers we need the breath to carry the sound and our mouth positions control the pitch.
